Your keys

Keys stay in this browser. Each request sends the key through our relay to that one provider; nothing is stored or logged.

Writing cards

Leave blank for claude-sonnet-5-5.

Voices

Most natural voices, and the only option for cloning your own voice (Starter plan or higher).

No voice key? Drills can still play live with your device's own voices.

Terms, privacy and licenses

Terms of use

deckdrill is a free tool, offered as is, without warranties of any kind. By using the website or the desktop app you agree to these terms. We may change or stop the service at any time.

You bring your own API keys. You're responsible for what you do with them, for the costs your providers charge, and for following each provider's terms (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, ElevenLabs, Microsoft Azure). We're not responsible for charges, lost data, or what a model or voice service produces.

Use deckdrill lawfully. Don't use it to impersonate anyone, to clone a voice without the speaker's permission, or to make content that infringes someone else's rights.

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of deckdrill.

Voices and the audio you make

Your computer's own voices. Your computer's own voices are licensed by Apple (macOS) and Microsoft (Windows) for personal, non-commercial use. Drills you save with them are for your own study: don't sell, publish or share them. They come with macOS and Windows under Apple's and Microsoft's license terms, which govern how the speech they produce may be used; deckdrill doesn't grant any rights to them. In a browser these voices only play live; the desktop app can also save them to MP3 for your own use.

ElevenLabs and Azure voices. ElevenLabs and Azure audio is governed by your own account's terms with them, since it's made with your key, on your plan. Check your plan before publishing or sharing that audio; some plans don't allow commercial use.

Your cloned voice. Only clone your own voice, or a voice you have the speaker's explicit permission to use. The clone is created in your own ElevenLabs account and is subject to ElevenLabs' voice-cloning terms. deckdrill never keeps a copy of your recording.

Cards. Cards you write are yours. Cards an AI writes for you are subject to your AI provider's terms. The demo decks are free to use for your own study.

This is a plain-language summary, not legal advice. If you plan to share or sell audio, read the license terms of the voices you used.

Privacy

Keys. Your API keys stay in your browser (or the desktop app): in this tab only, or on this device if you tick “remember”. Each request sends the key to our relay, which forwards it to that one provider and keeps nothing: no keys, card text or audio is stored on our servers.

Audio and decks. Drills are rendered and encoded on your device. Rendered lines are cached in your browser's storage so you don't pay for them twice; you can clear it in your browser's site settings.

Assistant and contact form. Messages to the on-site assistant are processed by an AI model through Vercel's AI Gateway. If you send us a message through the contact form or the assistant, we receive it by email with the name and address you give, and use it only to reply.

Analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without identifying you.

Desktop app. The app loads this website and adds no tracking of its own. It talks to Anki (AnkiConnect) and your computer's speech engine only on your computer.

Trademarks

Anki is a trademark of Ankitects Pty Ltd. Pimsleur and Glossika are trademarks of their respective owners; “Pimsleur-style” and “Glossika-style” only describe the kind of drill, in the spirit of those methods. ElevenLabs, Microsoft, Azure, Windows, Apple and macOS are trademarks of their respective owners. The demo decks are original study material; their characters are fictional.

deckdrill isn't affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any of them.

Open-source licenses

deckdrill is built on open-source software, including Next.js and React (MIT), the Vercel AI SDK (Apache 2.0), sql.js, fflate and fzstd (MIT), the Newsreader and Schibsted Grotesk fonts (SIL Open Font License 1.1), and lamejs for MP3 encoding (GNU LGPL 3.0, used unmodified; source at github.com/shijinyu/lamejs).

The full list with every license text is in third-party-notices.txt. The desktop app is built with Electron (MIT) and Chromium, whose licenses ship inside the app; its source is at github.com/withintheruins14/deckdrill-desktop.
